Reina's Story...

Reina’s fate was almost sealed. Taken to an auction in Oregon, she would have ended up slaughtered had it not been for the quick actions of her saviors.

A friend of Serenity’s recognized her and called Patricia who contacted the owner and "reminded " her that our horses could not be sold or rehomed.  Reina went through the auction and was purchased by a kill buyer.  Fortunately, we were able to intervene and Reina was returned to Serenity. Were it not for a few people doing the right thing, this beautiful girl would be dead.

Horses adopted from Serenity are required to be returned to Serenity if the owners are no longer able to care for them. Unfortunately, people don’t always do what’s in a horse’s best interest, and wonderful horses are lost forever. Auctions are never a guarantee that a horse, even one who is sound and sweet-tempered, will find a good home. Too many of these animals end up sold for a few hundred dollars and killed, often enduring cruel, inhumane treatment for their final days.

Reina, however, is alive and well and thriving at Serenity, and is ready for her forever home. A sweet, 13-year-old Quarter horse, Reina has training and experience guaranteed to make her a perfect partner for a capable rider. She would be great on trails or in the ring and can be ridden either English or Western.

Keona Needs You!

Victoria loves Keona. You can see it in her actions and hear it in her voice. "This horse has so much potential," she says, as she casually puts on the tack. "She could go in any direction."

Trail, show, endurance, dressage, Western or English, this little mare is smart, willing, and moving out under the firm hand of this remarkable young woman. Working with Keona five days a week since December, Victoria has formed a bond with a horse who once ran wild.

Calm now, and clearly loving the attention and the training, Keona is ready for her forever home.

Animal rescues are about more than just saving the physical body. These horses also have to find their place in the world, now that their strength has returned. Keona is a young, healthy, active mare, who craves interaction with a strong leader. She is blossoming under the care Victoria gives her.

"I'd adopt this horse in a second if I didn't already have horses of my own," she said. And it's easy to see it's true. Her eyes light up talking about the changes Keona has made in just a few short months.

As an Arab/Yakima Indian Pony cross, this 14.2, 4-year-old could be a longtime companion for her new owner. She's sturdy and playful, with soft eyes and an attentive manner. If you, or someone you know, are an experienced rider looking for a dynamic, athletic horse, Keona could be the perfect fit.

Available for adoption now at Serenity Equine Rescue and Rehabilitation, come on out and meet this beautiful girl. You're guaranteed to fall in love with her too.
